PAINTINGS FOR ESHA
I was commissioned to make 2 - 3 paintings for my dear friends’ new baby Esha. I took inspiration from a photo of the curtains in her room as well as a study of fish done by Matisse for the Chapelle du Rosaire in France.
“I commissioned Lenora to make original art for my daughter’s room, knowing I’d be spending many weary and heart- opening hours there as a new parent. I chose to work with her because her visual voice reminds me that I’m not alone in the business of being a human with a body but also that there’s a delight and a spark in that. It’s heavy and light at the same time, like mothering. I sent her pictures of the room and the size I was looking for but otherwise left the brief open. It was a delight to see Lenora create a series that was just right in terms of color, scale, and subject. She offered multiple design options to choose from and checked in to see if further adjustments were needed. All in all a ten out of ten experience and it makes me happy to know my daughter will have the imprint of this handmade art as she grows over the years.”
